Purchasing that first property is a huge milestone in anyone’s life and for many, an unaffordable goal. This is why it’s great to hear about the UK Government’s new First Homes scheme. 

The new initiative enables first-time buyers to save up to 30% on new-build properties. Along with Shared Ownership, the scheme will allow more people to get on the housing ladder. 

At HSPG, we believe there is an urgent need to support people onto the housing ladder in order to address the UK housing crisis. With house prices climbing by 8.5% during 2020 and a housing supply gap at over 1 million homes, according to research for the National Housing Federation and Crisis, carried out by Heriot-Watt University, more support is needed in this area. 

We’re incredibly pleased to see the UK Government take note of this with the launch of the First Homes scheme – an important step in the fight against the UK’s affordable housing shortage.
